Not only is it easy to make, but you can customize the style and colors to anything that first your home decor. It’s a little boho, a little trendy, and a LOT cute! This is also a great one to do with little kids because they can make the pom poms all by themselves and as long as they can wrap yarn over an area over and over, they are good to go!
Tassel wall hanging’s would look adorable in an entry way, bedroom, home office, living room above the couch, or even a kids room or kids playroom. It is a great option for inexpensive DIY wall art and will bring the most adorable touch of trendy boho decor into your home. The hardest part about making this DIY pom pom wall hanging is picking out your yarn colors!
Materials Needed:
- pom pom maker
- yarn
- scissors
- wooden dowel, branch, or hanger
For this particular pom pom wall hanging, you will use 3 different colored yarns:
- main color (green)- 1 large, 5 medium or small pom poms
- second color (orange)- 3 large pom poms
- accent (cream)- 5 tassels
Instructions:
STEP 1-
Make your pom pom’s by wrapping yarn around your pom pom maker
When you have completed wrapping one side, simply close that half circle and bring your yarn around to the other half circle. Wrap completely like the other side. Then snap into place.
Cut thread when wrapping is finished, then cut yarn down the center portion of each semi-circle.
Next, cut a small piece of yarn (7″-8″). Use this to tie your pom pom side together by slipping right into the center of the circle.
Tie a very tight double knot and make sure other threads are secure. Then you can gently pull the two sides of the pom pom maker apart. Simply release each semi-circle where you wrapped your yarn and pull. Both sides will unsnap and your pom pom is complete!
Repeat process to create all of your pom poms in your desired colors and sizes.
STEP 2-
Make tassels by using your preferred accent color. Simply wrap yarn around a small piece of cardboard. The size will be determined by the length you want your tassels. Mine were about 5″ long.
For thicker/chunkier tassels, just keep wrapping your yarn around the cardboard. When you are happy with the thickness, cut yarn and pull all strands off. Then use an additional small piece of yarn to tie a double knot approximately 1″- 1/2″ on one side. Then cut the strands on the opposite side to form the tassels. Trim yarn evenly if needed.
STEP 3-
Wrap yarn across length of dowel (or branch or hanger) you are using leaving a 1″-2″ space on BOTh sides. Cut yarn, tie a small knot to secure, and tuck into the threads on the dowel to hide.
STEP 4-
Now its time to assemble your wall hanging! Using one of the large plastic needles that come with your Pom Pom Maker, cut a long piece of yarn (main color used on the dowel, at least 15″). The length you cut will be dependent on how long you want each strand. Just play with different lengths and see what looks best to you. Thread the yarn onto the needle.
Thread needle through each of your pom poms and your tassel. Make sure you leave at least 5″-6″ to attach this piece to your dowel.
When you get to the tassel, tie a small double knot as close to the base as you can. You want to make sure it is secure, but also hidden amongst the strands of yarn.
Adjust space and length of each pom pom and tassels, then tie your string to the dowel. You can tuck the tail ends in or weave them into the back so they cannot be seen.
Your easy DIY pom pom wall hanging is complete! Such an easy tutorial and these are the perfect little touch of boho home decor. You can style your pom pom’s in so many different ways and depending on the time of year, these would be an adorable (and inexpensive) craft project to make for all kinds of holidays.
