Take your lunch or afternoon snacks to the next level with this viral trending TikTok hack! This will certainly change how you use your tortillas! Gluten Free, Paleo, and Keto options.
Healthy Tortilla Options
If you have spent any time on TikTok or Instagram this year, you mighthave noticed huge masses of people jumping on the newest food trend to hit social media. May I introduce you to the popular Tortilla Wrap Hack! This is something that is so simple and you will not make traditional wraps the same ever again. The possibilities are endless and you could literally make any of your favorite flavor combinations. You can make these as fancy or simple as you wish.
Today I am going to share 4 variations I came up with, I have two savory, one sweet, and a sweet & savory option that will blow your mind! Before we jump into the recipes though, lets talk about tortillas because lets face it, there are a ton of options available these days. Regardless of what type of diet you keep, you can rest assured that there is a tortilla option you will fall in love with. If you prefer regular flour tortillas or wheat tortillas, thats fine too!
For all of my keto & low carber’s out there, check out these cheese wraps. I first saw them at Costco, but you can also find them in some speciality grocers as well AND even on Amazon!
These are a great option if you are low carb, gluten free, and are good with dairy (they are lactose free too though). I love how pliable they are. They also work great for pinwheels, roll ups, and burritos. Just a word of caution… do NOT use them for enchiladas or anything that needs to be heated…. they will melt (you know, because they are actually made with cheese)! The flavor is mild also, so you can turn create any type of tortilla wrap with them and it won’t interfere at all.
Next I want to share another low carb option from a brand called Outer Aisle. These are technically “crusts” and are a great keto option for your favorite homemade pizza, BUT work great as a wrap or even as taco shells! Another bonus is they can also be purchased right on Amazon!
Next up I want to share these tortillas from a brand called Mikey’s… and they are SO good. On days that I go a bit higher with my carbs, more paleo style these were actually the first grain free/soy free tortillas that I found. These come in two different sizes, smaller ones for tacos and then larger burrito sized ones. Ingredients on these tortillas are so good: water, casava flour, sunflower oil, apple cider vinegar, and salt. That’s it!
And last, but certainly not least… my FAVORITE tortilla option for the past couple of years come from a brand called SIETE FOODS! I adore these so much. They come in different sizes, different gluten free options (almond flour, casava flour, chickpea flour, and more). The absolute BEST way to enjoy these is toasted up right on an open flame. So good. An added bonus is you can now find Siete products in the regular super market and of course at places like Whole Foods and Sprouts.
I’ve only mentioned a few options here, but just know you have plenty of healthier, gluten free options available these days as well. If you have considered going gluten free in 2021 to help reduce innflamation or for food sensitivites, these are AMAZING!
Tortilla Wrap Hack
Now that we have talked about your tortilla options, lets dive into this tortilla wrap hack. Just grab your preferred tortilla and cut one little slit from the center to one edge. This will produce the fold/pocket you will add your toppings to. Now you just need to pile ingredients onto each of the four quadrants. Like I said, SO simple. It’s silly how something so easy can make such a difference!
My Recipes
And now let’s get to the good stuff… the recipes I whipped up for this viral trend!
First up I have your everyday, basic PIZZA. This is a great option to get your feet wet and test this hack out. It’s simple, it’s familiar, and who doesn’t like anything and everything pizza?
Use one quadrant for your sauce, one for your mozzarella cheese, and th eother two for your favorite pizza toppings. Anything goes… pepperoni, sausage, bell peppers, olives, jalapenos, veggies, and/or any of your other favorite Italian flavors. I went a bit more effortless and stuck to ths basics: sauce, pepperoni, cheese, a splash of olive oil, and basil. This tortilla wrap is BEST when heated up. I put mine in a panini press and got it all nice and toasty.
Next up, I have another savory wrap recipe. For all of you who adore bold Mexican type flavors, this one is for YOU. I used my favorite Chipotle Lime mayo from Primal Kitchen, bacon, deli meat (chicken breast), sharp cheddar cheese, tomato, red onion, avocado/gucamole, and a sprinkle of Tajin (chili lime seasoning). I also used some spinach, but rethinking this flavor profile… cilantro would be AMAZING here! So good. This one is good cold OR toasted for that crispy exterior.
For my sweet option, I chose a peanut butter & jelly or in my case and ABJ (almond butter & jelly). To keep things a bit lower in carbohydrates and less sugar, I also decided to use real strawberries instead of jelly or preserves. This is such an easy “recipe” and the perfect easy lunch or snack for a kiddo.
One fun thing I did with this one is I added granola and cacao nibs. These items will not only give a great crunchy texture, but will also give you some added nutritional benefits. In order to get these ingredients to “stick”, I added almond butter to two quadrants and then sprinkled the toppings on those!
And last but not least, here is a really fun wrap filled with so many flavors and textures… mind will be blown! This is my take on a charcuterie board. Basically any and all ingredients you would see on a sampler board, throw it into a tortilla wrap and viola! You will get a bite of salty, sweet, crunchy, and creamy all rolled into one.
For my wrap I used deli turkey breast, sliced apples, olives, spinach & argula, and my new favorite item from Trader Joes… Everything But The Bagel cream cheese spread. This one is definitely better served as a cold wrap, just like everything you would see on a charcuterie board!
Other Flavor options
Like I said, the possibilities are endless with these tortilla wraps… even better with the hack (quadrants and folding it up) because nothing will fall out of the bottom. Here are a few other combinations that would be fantastic!
- SPICY: buffalo chicken, hot sauce, and monterrey jack cheese (toasted)
- MEDITERRANEAN: rotisserie chicken, feta cheese, hummus, and roasted red pepper (toasted or cold)
- MEXICAN (VEGETARIAN): black beans, fajita veggies, chopped tortilla chips, cheddar & monterrey jack cheeses, sour cream, and a pinch of sour cream
- MONTE CRISTO: ham, swiss cheese, mustard, and a sprinkle of powedered sugar
- HAZELNUT & BANANA
- BLACKBERRY & BRIE
Convinced to try these yet? I’m convinced I need to make another one right this very minute!!! If you do give any of these a try, be sure to let me know!
